Shipwreck
Review
Michelle H. "Someone who reads"
I have never been to Michigan before but this
book made me feel as if I had been there at this
seldom touched upon turning point in time. Shutt
writes this story from the viewpoints of three completely
different characters allowing the reader a completely
unbiased prespective on the social situation of
the time. Set in the Mackinac region of Michigan
around the 1950s this story begins well into the
busy lives of three young adults, a Native American
boy, a working class girl, and her wealthy upperclass
boyfriend. The series of events that unfolds causes
the three of their lives to come together creating
lasting effects not only on themselves, but on the
entire island. Though fiction, Shutt doesn't fail
to fill this novel with history and facts about
the region making it an excellent read if one is
interested in the area or Native culture. Shipwreck
is a hard book to put down once you get into it,
and although it takes place half a century ago it
isn't hard to see parts of the story happening today
in any town where differences between people are
feared and mistrusted. Shutt's first work is charming
and intelligent. I enjoyed it immensely.

A Wonderfully Engaging Story A wonderfully engaging
story that has it all -- intrigue, love, betrayal,
mystery. Once you read the first page, you will
be swiftly turning the pages as fast as you can....

Dances with Wolves meets Rocky
What a refreshing book this was to read. Robin
Shutt tells a great story. I felt I knew each of
the three main characters personally. I revisited
the lessons I learned as I became an adult, while
learning so much about Native American culture and
the history of northwest Michigan. I can't wait
for Robin's next book.
